NFB of Delaware to Host NFB-NEWSLINE Workshop

Wilmington, DE (April 29, 2022): The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) of Delaware Is pleased to announce that we will be holding a workshop on June 4, 2022, to present information about the NFB-NEWSLINE Service.

The NFB-Newsline is a free audio News service for anyone who is blind, low-vision, Deaf blind, or are otherwise print-disabled. It offers access to more than five hundred publications, emergency weather alerts, job listings, and more. Users of the service will get audio access to local publications such as the Wilmington News Journal and the Dover Post; as well as access to national and international publications such as the New York Times, Washington Post, and the Financial Times. The service also provides access to magazine publications such as Time, Consumer Report, and Guidepost to name a few.

“Access to the press is what most people consider a fundamental American right. Having this access is empowering, informative and allows me to be an active participant in my community” says Carol King-Ries, president of the Northern Delaware Chapter of the NFB.

This workshop will share details about the service, who is eligible, how to get access, and how to use the service. The workshop will be held via Zoom on Saturday, June 4th from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Braille Family Fun Day at Talley Day Park

The Northern Delaware Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) of Delaware will host a Braille Family Fun Day at Talley Day Park on Saturday, June 18th from 11 am to 2 pm. Talley Day Park is located at 1300 Foulk Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803. There will be something for everyone to do.

We will serve lunch in the Pavilion next to the playground. There will be Braille and Tactile games that everyone can play in the Pavilion. For those who like to walk, there is an excellent walking path, and the Brandywine Hundred Library is there as well. So, bring the whole family and have a great outing.

Because we are serving lunch, you are required to register for the event. You can do this by sending your name, address, e-mail address and number of attendees to the Northern Delaware chapter email, northerndenfb@gmail.com. You can also register via phone at 302-415-3277. The deadline for registration is Friday, June 3rd.
